Career Center

Career Center offers services and resources along every single step of the job search process. This includes resume- and cover letter-writing instruction, job search assistance, an Internet-accessible computer lab and mock interview simulations.

Additionally, women are provided with individualized attention from volunteer Career Consultants who possess backgrounds in a number of professional fields, including job development, career specialization and human resources. This tailored support ensures that our women enter a job interview with the advantage of sound interview skills and a concise resume.

Career Center operates Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the services and resources offered are available to all women free of charge, regardless of employment status.

Beginning February 3, 2010, DFS Pittsburgh will offer a series of workshops every Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Career Center. The monthly cycle focuses on a different topic each week. The workshops include an informational session followed by a “hands on” experience where women have the opportunity to practice what they learn and receive one-on-one assistance.

February's Schedule:

  • February 3, 2010: Preparing for the Job Search
  • February 10, 2010: Writing Your Resume and Cover Letters
  • February 17, 2010: Internet Basics and Online Job Search
  • February 24, 2010: Interview Tips and Mock Interviews

Women may visit the Career Center anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to use the resources available to conduct their own, independent job search. However, women are strongly encouraged to call first to set up an appointment.
